Yard recycling to Lazybrook esplanades has stopped for the summer. Please stop dropping your grass/leaves bags at the esplanades for Nancy to empty at the trees. Summer is here and it is TOO HOT to have her continue this effort for us thru the summer. We will start back up in the late fall with the bagged leaves. If you want to put your yard waste on the esplanade plants, please feel free to do so yourselves. Place the mulched leaves/grass on top of existing areas and take your empty trash bags back to your garbage cans at your home. Thank you all in advance for your cooperation.

Jaycee Park Update
If you did not make it to the festival on Saturday or had to leave early, these are the 2 big announcements you missed…

The Big Announcement
It has been almost 1 year since we had the big public hearing with the city and Houston Parks Board. One of the possibilities many people got very excited about and said they would really love to have is a water sprayground at the park so that they could enjoy the park even in the summer. HEB had one last sprayground to donate and guess which park they just chose????? Jaycee Park!!!!!!!!!!! It will be ready for Spring 2011. This was a $250,000 donation to our park!
The Friends of Jaycee Park t-shirts were really popular at the festival and we sold out of our supply, but are about to place an order. If you are interested in getting one, they are a $12 donation and just let us know the size you would like. We can order children’s sizes too. The deadline will be this Friday to get in your order.

Successful Tree Planting

50 volunteers came together ready to plant over 150 trees. After a breakfast provided by realtor, Sharon Ettinger, and a brief tree planting demonstration by one of the foresters, we went to work and planted all the trees in about an hour and a half! We had volunteers from Timbergrove, Lazybrook, Heritage Creek, Timbergrove Point, Oak Forest and even 1 from Spring Branch that read about the planting in the newspaper and 2 from Humble that work in the area. We planted a mix of Shumard oaks, ‘Texas’ redbud, red maple, hickory, blackgum, Mexican plum, pine and cedar elm.
Timbergrove resident, Ben Crabb, hauled out the watering tank in his pickup truck and gave the trees their first watering and continues to care for them. Please stop by the park and check them out whenever you get a chance. They really have given the park a softer and more welcoming look.
Benches
Four of five benches have been installed and getting lots of use at the park. The plaques are being engraved and will be installed soon. If you would like to honor a loved one, your family or company, you can donate a bench with a personalized plaque for a $1500 donation. Please contact Ileana Desalos at 713-922-6742 or friendsofjayceepark@yahoo.com.
