August PIP Meeting
The August PIP meeting was held on August 24 and we were fortunate to have a guest speaker from Crime Stoppers. Crime Stoppers is a non-profit organization that gives cash rewards for tips that lead to the capture of criminals, aiding police officers in arrest and conviction of offenders.
They offer these crime prevention tips:
- Lock all doors and windows, including upstairs windows
- If you are just moving in, you should change your locks
- Ask for identification from delivery and service providers
- Be aware of your surroundings
- Get to know your neighbors
- Store valuable property in a safe or safety deposit box
- Report suspicious people and write down license plate numbers
- Stay alert when entering your home
- Report bad lighting or overgrown shrubbery to the city (311)
- Use initials on mailboxes or doorbells to avoid being an easy target
Since 1981 Crime Stoppers has been involved in the arrest of over 22,000 suspects with over $9 Million in cash rewards given out. To report a tip to Crime Stoppers, call 713-222-TIPS or visit their website at www.crime-stoppers.org.

PIP Meeting on July 27th
Houston Police Department Central Division Positive Interaction Program
GUEST SPEAKER:
Officer Charles P. Garmond
Crisis Intervention Team for Mental Health & Crime Prevention Specialist
About PIP
The Houston Police Department has had a Community Service Division since the Seventies. When a group of citizens requested a presentation on a crime prevention topic, they would send one of their officers to the group and advise them what they could do to keep from becoming crime victims again. This is proactive policing. In 1982, out of the patrol division came the idea that citizens also need to know more about their police department before a crime occurred in their neighborhood. From this idea came the concept of the Positive Interaction Program, “PIP.”

Citizens on Patrol
A COP certification/re-certification class was held on June 16 at Lazybrook Baptist Church. I am very happy to say that there were about 20 Lazybrook neighbors in attendance with familiar faces to re-certify and several new people that were attending for the first time. Thank you for all of the neighbors that made the meeting, I look forward to working with all of ya’ll in the future.

Security Tip for Neighbors
If you hear a noise outside your home or someone trying to get in your house, just press the panic button for your car. The alarm will be set off, and the horn will continue to sound until either you turn it off or the car battery dies.
Next time you come home for the night and you start to put your keys away, think of this: It’s a security alarm system that you probably already have and requires no installation. Test it. It will go off from most everywhere inside your house and will keep honking until your battery runs down or until you reset it with the button on the key fob chain. It works if you park in your driveway or garage.
If your car alarm goes off when someone is trying to break into your house, odds are the criminals won’t stick around. After a few seconds, all the neighbors will be looking out their windows to see who is out there and sure enough the criminal won’t want that. And remember to carry your keys while walking to your car in a parking lot. The alarm can work the same way there.
Citizens on Patrol Training
It is time to re-train/re-certify all of our neighborhood patrollers and train anyone wanting to join. We are having a class on Thursday June 16, 2011 at 6:00 PM at Lazybrook Baptist Church. Please spread the word to anyone that you think might be interested. I need to get a rough head count so please RSVP to Lazybrook.security@gmail.com or call me at 713-864-2823.
Everyone is welcome, no experience necessary, this is a great way to help insure the continued safety of our wonderful neighborhood.
Thank you for your continued support!
