School Zone Safety Reminder

As a volunteer for Citizens on Patrol and a regular morning walker, I often see drivers using a cell phone or texting while driving through our school zone on Ella Boulevard or crossing our school zone on Grovewood.

Council Member Ellen Cohen Comes Through for Jaycee Park!

When the private renovation ended in 2012, our transformed park attracted more people who were staying longer than had been the case in decades.  The splash pad began attracting families with small children many of whom were yet to be potty trained; the City began programming the tennis courts with some lessons lasting two hours; Grovewood, Seaspray and Foxwood residents reported being bothered and inconvenienced in various ways because our park had no restroom facilities.

BigKidSmallCity readers recommended Jaycee Park, so we went out to explore it on a weekday afternoon last week. As we drove through the Heights, and wove through industrial buildings, I did question the recommendation… but soon we arrived at Jaycee Park and saw what all the excitement was about.

2014 Holiday Lighting Contest Winners

This year we had a lot of new participants to our neighborhood Holiday Lighting tradition. It was great to see all of the new lights and decorations among the many others. Everyone who takes the time to put up even the simplest strand of lights, or just the Christmas tree in the window deserves to be recognized for their work.
